Refugee Student Empowerment Fund

Eligibility: Open to both undergraduate and graduate students. To be eligible, applicants must:
  • Be entering students defined as refugees by the Canadian Government who arrived in the last 6 years or less, as determined by the Award Committee.
  • Be admitted to their first year of a program at the University of Saskatchewan.
  • Have the ability to travel and/or return to Saskatoon to study.
  • Submit a statement that articulates how a bursary from this fund will empower them to complete a degree at the University of Saskatchewan and achieve their educational goals.
  • Demonstrate sufficient English proficiency to enter an academic program directly, OR
  • Demonstrate the potential to succeed in English language after spending no longer than two terms in the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program at the Language Centre.
Selection criteria: Based on the merits of the student's submitted document, as determined by the awards committee.

Priorities for selection:
  1. High Priority Pathway: students who apply directly to an academic pathway and who meet English proficiency.
  2. Low Priority Pathway: students who apply through the joint EAP application and who demonstrate a level of English proficiency requiring at most 2 terms of EAP.
